Desensitized Butts + The Yah-but hole

We’re back with another episode that truly embodies the phrase “what just happened?!” This one starts with a Dave Matthews Band concert and ends with us questioning the entire fabric of reality, the government, and whether Adam’s first wife was unfairly cancelled. (Yes, the biblical Adam).

We dissect:

  • The sacred, snot-sobbing tradition of a DMB concert as a radical act of self-love.

  • The "Yah-but Hole" vs. The "Rabbit Hole": Why one leads to fear-based excuses and the other to genuine curiosity and action.

  • How warning labels on cigarettes (and the 24/7 news cycle) might be secretly numbing our brains into submission.

  • Our "hot take" on evolution (spoiler: we’re not convinced).

  • The frustrating gap between acknowledging your shit and actually doing something about it.

This conversation is unhinged, deeply personal, and somehow, it all makes sense in the end.

A Moment to Pause in the Chaos

In the middle of the spiral, there are always gems. If the chaotic energy of our conversation is the main course, consider this your digestif—a moment to sit with the insights that hit a little too close to home.

Here’s what we’re sitting with this week:

  • Your Traditions are Your Anchor: That thing you do every year, that concert, that trip, that ritual—it’s not just a fun event. It’s a non-negotiable gift to yourself. It’s a solid thing you can depend on in a world that offers very few. Protect it fiercely.

  • "Feeling Your Feelings" is Only Step One: Awareness without action is just intellectualizing your excuses. The real work begins when you move from “I notice I’m berating myself” to “I will not accept this. I will do better.” Stop getting stuck in the beep-beep-beep part.

  • Beware the "Yah-but Hole": Curiosity is fuel. But when your curiosity is fueled by fear (“Yeah, but what if I fail?”), it becomes a limitation. Feed the curiosity that asks, “What’s the next brave action I can take?”

  • You Can Choose Your Inputs: If the constant barrage of negative news wires your nervous system for fear, you have the power to change the channel. Actively consuming good news isn’t naive; it’s a strategic move for your mental health.

The most powerful choice you can make is to claim back your attention and your agency. Love yourself enough to do that.

If you're ready to laugh, spiral, and maybe get a little pissed off, you know what to do.
